New Corporate Campus, Liberty Fund | Carmel, IN

The 61,300-square-foot headquarters for Liberty Fund, Inc., a private educational foundation, increases the visibility of the organization through a design that makes a statement on a prominent site. The building consists of a one-story entry pavilion, conference and hospitality area, two-story office area and a two-story library area that includes a partial mezzanine and basement. The entire structure is designed around an open, central courtyard. A pedestrian trail, sculpture gardens and reflecting pool on the wooded site will be visible from a two-story library. A key design challenge was providing support for the roof framing of the library through custom-designed, engineered wood “tree columns.” Additional challenges included a cantilevered mezzanine system that overlooks the main level of the library and a specialty screening system that envelopes its exterior curtain wall system.
